Looking for the perfect free crochet project to keep you busy for a few hours? This adorable crochet baby hat is simple to make and is a great way to practise your pattern-shaping skills.

Crocheted baby items that have been handmade with love and care make such wonderful presents, and once you've found a pattern you enjoy making it can be customised in a number of ways to make something unique each time.

This quick and easy baby hat crochet pattern by Birch Knits is sized for newborns right up to 18 months, making it a cute and practical make for any of your little loved ones. Suitable for beginners who are looking to advance their skills, it uses basic crochet techniques and follows a simple pattern with decreasing worked at the top of the hat to make the crown shaping.

By including some shaping and basic crochet stitches such as double and treble crochet, as well as back loop crochet you'll create interesting patterns, details and texture in the design.

This crochet baby hat is made using Prima yarn which works up nice and quickly. It is the perfect wool to use for baby projects as it has a lovely soft feel, plus it's easy to care for. It can be washed up to 40 degrees and tumble-dried on a cool setting.
