One member of the Straw Hat crew finally gets to interact with Vegapunk and proves that even the world's biggest genius can still learn a few things.

Warning: Spoilers For One Piece chapter #1090It's taken more time than One Piece readers expected, but one particular Straw Hat's genius is finally interacting with Dr. Vegapunk, the world's smartest man, and left him dumbfounded. Egghead Island is the home of the esteemed scientist whose name and reputation's been referenced and hinted at several times throughout One Piece's story. One particular Straw Hat had strong ties with Vegapunk before even meeting him, as the scientist's work saved his life, but now that Franky has the chance to showcase his own genius, he's leaving even the world's smartest man dumbfounded.

It took almost no time for chaos to ensue once the Straw Hat's landed on Vegapunk's home, Egghead Island, meaning that Franky did not have the chance to interact with Vegapunk in the way fans hoped. In chapter #1090, Franky and Dr. Vegapunk's minds finally come together to form a plan to escape the island, and it proves that Franky's genius is worthy of Vegapunk's surprise. Hoping to use his robot Vegaforce-1 to fly over the Navy's blockade carrying the Thousand Sunny, Vegapunk says that unfortunately the robot only works in the confines of Egghead, and further than that loses its power. However, Franky points out that they can simply use the Sunny's Coup de Burst to fly even farther, up to one kilometer away, which shocks Vegapunk. The scientist is even more surprised when he learns that the Sunny is powered by simple cola.

Although he was already partially a cyborg, Franky managed to do some severe damage to his body during the two years away from the Straw Hat crew. He fixed and improved himself using one of Dr. Vegapunk's abandoned labs, where he grew an even larger respect for the scientist that many call the World's Smartest Man. This is why fans were looking forward to Franky and Vegapunk's interactions once the Straw Hats reached Egghead, but unfortunately the chaos, the arrival of CP0, York's betrayal, and the massive Navy ship surrounding the island did not leave a lot of room for the two inventors to share notes.

Dr. Vegapunk has been growing his knowledge and the literal size of his brain thanks to the Nomi Nomi no Mi Devil Fruit for decades. His technological achievements have accomplished wonders like the creation of the Sea Powered Bubble Shields and Gun Powder Flowers. However, Vegapunk's work has also caused a lot of harm, like his research into cloning and the Pacifistas. While those achievements are impressive for better or worse, the Straw Hat's own Franky has accomplished much in his life that may someday make his name as famous as Dr.Vegapunk's. Chapter #1090 proves that Franky's smarts and resourcefulness are on their way to that accomplishment.

Besides creating one of the world's greatest pirate ships that'll save the Straw Hat's and Dr. Vegapunk's lives, Franky's work with cola as a power source could really impress the scientist. Vegapunk's dream is, after all, to create an endless energy source freely available for everyone in the world, which would end strife and war. While the series has hinted that Vegapunk's research led him to atomic energy, this has also the potential to be corrupted into a weapon (as the mysterious "Mother Flame" used by Imu seems to imply). Franky's cola could be the solution that Vegapunk is looking for, which would be an absolutely incredible development. One Piece fans might not get the epic battle of wits and robots they expected between Franky and Dr. Vegapunk but hopefully the rest of this arc will prove that Franky's talents can shine even next to the main with the world's biggest brain (literally).
